As a Social Media Trainer I continually tell my clients that content is everything – the new SEO if you will but there is a greater challenge for online marketeers that of how to get their new found prowess in content creation out there.
As the platforms get busier it becomes harder to be heard amongst the crowd. Facebook and Twitter are already majoring on their paid-for options and the reach afforded to free postings are shrinking. Paid for offerings are relatively cost-effective when compared to their pay-per-click cousins – My advice ? compare what you could pay on Google adwords and the cost of Facebook’s promoted service and Twitter’s promoted posts.
Quietly nestling away in the corner remains the platform that has always charged for its premium offering. LinkedIn is being used by clever marketeers to get their message across. The trick is to ramp up your company profile and get key figures in your business to link their relevant connections to the company page. If you are a sole-trader or SME its possible to develop that page to include links images videos and files and give a very professional view to the outside world. It really is a no-brainer yet some fairly large companies neglect this opportunity. Using Linkedin company pages in the same way you would a Facebook Fan Page – that is a mix of sales messages and industry news and comment.
If you follow my blog you will know of my passion for using Pinterest and having the image based platform in your armoury is very much recommended by this marketeer! It continues to grow and you need to be part of it.
A simple search via Google and you will see that Google’s previous reluctance to take into consideration Social in rankings is fast becoming history. You need to get a Company Google plus page and use it in the way you previously would use Facebook marketing.
Video and Images are key to holding your audiences attention so use whatever you have to feed this – Its always been the case that visuals are important and never more so than in today’s noisy internet marketplace.
In conclusion – Good visibility coupled with great content should still be at the centre of your Social Media Strategy but LinkedIn Company pages Google plus and a paid campaign should be considered and keep sharing awesome images and Video. Social is a quick moving beast and you need to adapt your plan to suit.
